our story

Abby Construction has gladly served the Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvainia and surrounding communities since 1986. Offering general contractor services, we sepcialize in commerical construction, residential construction, foundation repairs and historical renovations.

The company evolved from a historical church renovation in the historic district of downtown Fredericksburg (hence the “Abby”name). We take pride in the community we serve, and have donated our time and expertise to the Fredericskburg SPCA and Thurman Brisbane Homeless Shelter. Mike lived in Alexandria, VA before moving to Fredericksburg in 1989. He worked for six years as a construction diver in the North Sea with Northern Divers and Oceaneering Int. doing saturation diving. He also worked in the Gulf of Mexico air diving for Oceaneering.

He has owned and managed Abby Construction Co., Inc. by working on residential and commercial renovations as the area’s general contractor-of-choice since 1986. Mike is very active in the community by serving on the Hope House board of directors, and is also involved in the CBMC, Knights of Columbus, and Christmas in April organizations.



Chris was born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA and attended Virginia Commonwealth University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He has been working full-time at Abby Construction since 2009, but has worked part-time hours since 2002 while attending high school and college.

He has attained the designation of LEED Green Associate by demonstrating the knowledge and understanding of green building practices and principles to support the use of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED*), Green Building Rating SystemTM. He is currently working towards the LEED Accredited Professional designation.



After studying construction and architecture in Wyoming, John joined the military where he served for 12 years. His last duty assignment was here in D.C. with the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery. John marched in the presidential inaugural parades for George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton he also was on the U.S. Army’s drill team. John learned leadership, and attention to detail while in the military and he now uses those talents renovating homes and commercial buildings. He worked as a framing carpenter, trim carpenter, and a stair railing craftsman for years before He joined the Abby team in 2001 and become a part owner in 2011.

John has served as the president of the board for Hope Worldwide and gives his time and talents to serving the community, the under privileged, and his church.
John has four grand children three lovely granddaughters and a grandson, when he is not spending time with them and has time, he loves to play golf, softball, go boating, or build furniture in his workshop.



After studying drafting, design and project management, Mike joined the Abby Construction team in 2016 as a Project Coordinator. He has almost a decade of industry experience, including five years as a project manager. After growing up in Prince Georges County, he moved to Fredericksburg more than eight years ago. In his spare time, he enjoys fishing, archery and paintball.
